Step By Step

Step by Step, a short narrative by Thi Doan will screen as part of the 4:30 PM shorts program entitled New Voices Shorts and will be shown at the Washington Ethical Society on October 27.

Step by Step features the story of Van, a young Vietnamese immigrant and aspiring dancer, who overcomes poverty, a language barrier and other adversities to gain acceptance in a ballroom dance studio.

Thi Doan (Director/Writer/Producer/Editor) was born and raised in Vietnam. She graduated from the San Francisco Film School in 2017. Her short documentary “On the Bright Side,” has screened at the Legacy Film Festival on Aging, Southern Margins International Short Film Festival, and was awarded an honorable mention at Asians on Film Festival. Her thesis narrative film Step by Step was also selected as a semi-finalist of the Student World Awards and was screened at the Women’s Film Festival in San Diego, and at the International Film Festival of South Asia in Toronto.
